One of the artists I have chose is Gerardo Ruiz Maldonado. As I was searching for printmaking artists, I came upon him. His work caught my eye. It was very different. It looks like he put a lot of detail and time into his work. There really isn't any description of his work. But after looking at most of his pieces, it looks a lot of them have to do with Mexican culture or animals and plants.
I chose him because his work is very different. His work also looks like it took him a lot of time to finish. The two pictures above are my favorite. I'm not sure what the bottom one really is but it reminds me of a dark flower. The other interested me because of all the detail and they way he etched everything. I also liked how the corner looks like there is light coming into the jungle.
Most of the words on his website were Spanish. But most of them I was able to translate. He used zinc and iron for a lot of his etchings. He also used nitric acid to make the images on the plates. Some of the mediums were dry point, mezzo tint, aquatint, etching, and experimental tech.
