Megan Lewis Assignment #1
The exhibition "Prolific Growth" was a very unique and cohesive display. The compositions flowed one into the other naturally and kept your attention fully. I believe that the compositions also fed off one another as you looked at each piece, and therefore created a sense of what the exhibition was entitled to begin with: growth. In addition I felt that the simplicity of the frames was key so as not to take away from the piece itself. The near non existent frames made the compositions more pronounced, and didn't deter the viewer from focusing solely on the composition.
The exhibition as a whole was very successful. It kept my eyes and mind wandering, looking more deeply into the colors and shapes. The compositions were detailed in such a way that certain colors jumped off the walls, while other prints looked as if you could reach out and feel the texture. One such composition that really struck me was composition #38. The first thing i noticed about it was that it wasn't as colorful as the other pieces, and the simplicity of that drew me in. It reminded me of the basic forms of life, and the beginning of things when they first start out. The overlapping circles were also visually pleasing to me as well as the look of texture. The three elements of simple color, overlapping shapes, and the visual texture brought this piece together for me. I loved the fact that something so simple could be so intriguing.
I really enjoyed the exhibition as a whole. I believe Professor Salvator did a fantastic job of creating compositions that fed off one another and effortlessly flowed one into the other. She definitely conveyed these feelings in her lecture as well. She was constant with what she told us in her lecture and what her compositions conveyed. I believe that the overall feelings she was trying to convey with this exhibition was a huge success. It all in all exudes a sense of growth big and small.
